GUITAR ON THE EDGE

ANTONIO SONCINA Italy

Antonio SoncinaAntonio Soncina was born in Gela (Sicily, Italy) on the 8th of november 1975.

He asked his family to buy a guitar when he was just 13 years old, just for emulation of a family friend (who played Queen songs on an acoustic guitar). He didn't touch his new guitar for a whole year.

Then, he and his family moved to other place and in consequence, he lost all his previous friends. Then it was time for him to start to play with his new friend: his guitar; and then it became a passion. He talks about his influences:

Antonio Soncina in 2003"Van Halen has been one of my big influences in my life and I consider him as a genius. Joe Satriani has a great feeling and sometimes it makes fantastic compositions that go beyond the concept of instrumental rock. John Petrucci has the feel of the 80's shred player but "Images & words" and "Scenes from a memory" are wonderful albums with inspired compositions. The late Greg Howe and Brett Garsed gave new technical & fusion-like approches to guitar playing".

But he thinks he is an "80's guy"! He likes rock, but enjoy hot rod music too, like Albert Lee.

His fav guitar is a yellow OLP MM1 Floyd Rose. He has got Ibanez, Fender, Gibson, Yamaha, and he gets a wonderful feeling with the OLP.

He doesn't play for living. He'd like to, but his family didn't support him. So at the moment he works behind a desk. Luckily, he now has a job that gives him more time to practice.

He currently has a band called "5 - 1" but he'd like to join some other bands for fun's sake.

His goal as a musician is to play live on stage: "I think is the most beautiful emotion!"
