#71- MARCO SFOGLI
Born in 1980, his first attempt with music came in 1984 when he played with his parents in Schwetzingen, Germany during an encore (both folkloric musicians: Corrado Sfogli, guitars, mandola, bouzouki (stringed instrument with a pear-shaped body and a very long neck) and his mother Fausta Vetere, vocals and guitar, members of the italian folkloric group called Nuova Compagnia di Canto Popolare-NCCP) . But the story starts in 1989 when he received his first electric guitar as a gift:
He started to play along with his heroes (Michael Jackson, Van Halen, Europe), while other kids his age usually preferred to play soccer. In 1992 he left the guitar to study the drums, another huge passion. He switched back to guitar at 16 and never looked back.
In 1996 he left the drums because of his growing interest in guitar, especially after an intense listening of "Images and Words" by Dream Theater. Today, he's a guitar player, a composer and an arranger. He has worked as session player in Italy for a lot of artists and was part of one of the top World Music bands ever, “Nuova Compagnia di Canto Popolare”, touring extensively with them around the world. Nowadays he is the guitar player of Dream Theater’s vocalist James LaBrie and Matt Guillory, for which he recorded in 2005 guitar tracks on his latest solo album entitled “Elements of Persuasion”, which has become a hit for progressive metal fans. Since then he had the luck to record and appear on records with such names as Simon Phillips, Greg Bissonette, Matt Bissonette, Alex Argento, Matt Guillory, John Macaluso, Vitalij Kuprij, Randy Coven and many more. When not touring or recording he teaches extensively in his area. Marco actually is endorsed by: Rash guitars, Mesa/Boogie amps, Galli Strings, DiMarzio pickups and MI-Audio pedals.
