Les Paul, the guitar virtuoso and inventor, who revolutionized music and created rock 'n' roll as surely as Elvis Presley and the Beatles by developing the solid-body electric guitar and multitrack recording, died Thursday at age 94.

On August 13, 2009, Paul died of complications from pneumonia at White Plains Hospital in White Plains New York at the age of 94. His family and friends were by his side. Paul is survived by his four children and his companion Arlene Palmer. His attorney told the media Paul had been "in and out of the hospital" because of illness.

Upon learning of his death many artists and musicians paid tribute by publicly expressing their sorrow. Among them were Trey Anastasio, Randy Bachman, The Edge, Ace Frehley, The Hard Lessons, John 5, B.B. King, Tad Kubler, Slash, Joe Satriani, Brian "Head" Welch, Brian May, Tom Morello and Keith Richards.

After learning of Paul's death, former Guns N' Roses and current Velvet Revolver guitarist Slash called him "vibrant and full of positive energy."

U2 guitarist The Edge said, "His legacy as a musician and inventor will live on and his influence on rock and roll will never be forgotten."

An August 21, 2009, article by The Associated Press reported that Paul was to be buried at Prairie Home Cemetery in Waukesha and that his plot would be in an area where visitors can easily view it.

Who hasn't wanted to be a rock star, join a band or play electric guitar? Music resonates, moves and inspires us. Strummed through the fingers of The Edge, Jimmy Page and Jack White, somehow it does more. Such is the premise of It Might Get Loud, a new documentary conceived by producer Thomas Tull. It Might Get Loud isn't like any other rock'n roll documentary. Filmed through the eyes of three virtuosos from three different generations, audiences get up close and personal, discovering how a furniture upholsterer from Detroit, a studio musician and painter from London and a seventeen-year-old Dublin schoolboy, each used the electric guitar to develop their unique sound and rise to the pantheon of superstar. Rare discussions are provoked as we travel with Jimmy Page, The Edge and Jack White to influential locations of their pasts. Born from the experience is intimate access to the creative genesis of each legend, such as Link Wray's "Rumble’s" searing impression upon Jimmy Page, who surprises audiences with an impromptu air guitar performance. But that's only the beginning. While each guitarist describes his own musical rebellion, a rock'n roll summit is being arranged. Set on an empty soundstage, the musicians come together, crank up the amps and play. They also share their influences, swap stories, and teach each other songs. The rock legends took the stage together for just three concerts in a highly anticipated collaboration, performing a string of hits that included Blind Faith’s “Presence of the Lord,” and “Can’t Find My Way Home,” in addition to Clapton’s classics “After Midnight” “Tell the Truth” and “Crossroads” and Steve Winwood’s “Dear Mr. Fantasy” and “Glad.”

The limited edition CD/DVD set also includes “The Road to Madison Square Garden,” an exclusive documentary which features interviews with both men, as well as rare footage and photographs of Cream, Traffic and Blind Faith.

Bonus performances on the DVD include “Lowdown,” “Kind Hearted Woman” and “Crossroads.” Both Winwood and Clapton have long and prestigious musical careers with countless honors and awards to their names. Their musical paths connected in 1969 with the formation of Blind Faith, a group that pioneered the fusion of rock and blues into tremendous studio and stage success. Despite critical and popular acclaim, the band was short-lived with only one album and a brief 1969 tour that debuted July 12 at Madison Square Garden and ended August 24th in Hawaii. Since that final show, Winwood and Clapton have remained friends, but had only performed together a few times over the years for an occasional song at a charity event.

The 2008 Madison Square Garden shows were the first full Winwood-Clapton concerts in 40 years. Steve Winwood is currently signed to Columbia Records and released an album of new music, "NINE LIVES" in 2008. Eric Clapton’s compilation album "Complete Clapton" was released in 2008 on Reprise Records.

Outstanding jazz, blues and fusion guitarist Scott Henderson is to be the next legendary player to headline in a series of masterclasses hosted by the Guitar Institute in London in association with Guitar Getaways Awaydays. This follows the hugely successful event featuring Larry Carlton at the end of last year. EMI Music and Queen are announcing the re-release over two years of the entire Queen studio album catalogue on long playing vinyl albums.

The album packaging will include every detail of the original releases in their original 12” format. Bonus posters, extra pictures, and all the unique content of the original albums will be faithfully reproduced.
